Reasonable Relationships
Philippians 4:2-5 12/30/07
Apparently there had been some trouble and disharmony brewing in the church at Philippi. It didn’t seem to be anything earth shattering, but it was enough of a problem to concern Paul. All throughout this letter he hinted at the problem, but now in this section, he speaks directly to the situation he was thinking about. In chapter 1 Paul had said, “stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” (Philippians 1:27) In chapter 2 he told them to be “like–minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” (Philippians 2:2) Here in chapter 4 Paul gets specific about the disharmony that exists between two women in the church. He urged them to “to be of the same mind in the Lord.” Or, as the NASB puts it, “live in harmony in the Lord.” I think we can safely say from all this, that God wants us to learn to get along with each other and be reasonable in our relationships. Are you easy to get along with, or do you make things difficult in your relationships with other believers?
