The Sign of the Covenant

God was and is serious about His covenant with man. God has made a gracious covenant with us. He has fulfilled the Abrahamic covenant by sending His own Son to be a sacrificial lamb in order to bring us into fellowship with Himself. This covenant is all of grace. He initiated it, He fulfilled the terms, and He chooses whom He will apply it to. For us today, the covenant is this – “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.” Receive Christ and receive the gift of eternal life. But that is not all. We, like Abraham, are also called to walk before God in a devoted life of faith and obedience. When we go our own way and take lightly God’s covenant we are breaking the 3rd Commandment; we are taking His name in vain.
