Genesis 18:20-33 07/13/08
This section of Scripture has been called “the most remarkable example of intercessory prayer in the Bible.”[1]
The English word “intercede” is derived from Latin intercedo, “to come between,” and “to interpose on behalf of” a person. In short, intercession is prayer on behalf of another. In 1Timothy 2:1 the apostle Paul instructed Timothy about prayer. He said, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.” Since we are commanded as new covenant believers to intercede for others then the example of Abraham will help us to know how to go about it. From this passage in Genesis 18 we will learn a few lessons in intercession.
