Lingering in Sodom

Genesis 19:15-22 07/27/08
Early one morning, around 1900 BC, two angels urged Lot to hurry to get his wife and daughters out of Sodom lest they be consumed in the punishment of the city. Lot had already tried to warn his sons-in-law, but they thought he was joking. Later that morning, the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, destroying all the inhabitants in those cities along with every other living thing. We cannot imagine the horror of that scene. Every man, woman, boy and girl was burned alive by a shower of molten fire. Many years before, God had sent a flood on the whole earth and almost all the people on earth at that time were drowned in the waters of that flood. If there is anything that is worse than death by drowning it would be death by burning. And if there is anything worse than death by burning it would be an eternity of burning in the never-ending fires of hell.
